Planning an escape room holiday in Perth: your questions

In short: Everything about planning an escape room holiday in Perth: how long to come for and how many worlds a day, life between worlds, choosing among 20 worlds at Hay Street Mall and Lake Street, getting around, booking, and each world one by one.

Planning your escape room holiday

Why plan an escape room holiday in Perth?

Because Perth packs 20 different Escape This worlds into two venues about five minutes apart on foot: Calico Jack’s galleon, ancient Egypt and a Wild West gaol under Hay Street Mall, and a haunted house, Dracula’s lair and a meat locker on Lake Street, Northbridge. You can visit several worlds a day without a car.

How long should an escape room holiday in Perth be?

Escape Perth’s itineraries run one, two or three days. One day suits locals or a stopover, a weekend suits most visitors, and three days at Marathon pace takes in most of the city’s worlds without playing any of them twice.

How many escape rooms can you do in a day in Perth?

Escape Perth’s breaks come in three paces: Taster is two worlds a day, Enthusiast is three and Marathon is four or five. Each world is 60 minutes plus 15 minutes’ arrival, so a five-world Marathon day runs from about 10 am to 8 pm with short breaks.

On the trip

Does the weather matter on an escape room break?

Hardly. Every world is indoors, in The Basement under Hay Street Mall or inside Escape This Northbridge on Lake Street, so a 40-degree day or a winter storm leaves the itinerary as it is. Only the short walks between the venues are outside.

What do we do between worlds?

Eat, drink and compare notes. Each itinerary leaves breaks for lunch and dinner between worlds. Northbridge, around Escape This Northbridge, is Perth’s best-known area for restaurants, bars and nightlife, and Hay Street Mall is in the middle of the city’s shopping streets. A guide to things to do in your downtime is on its way.

Where should we stay for an escape room break in Perth?

Anywhere in the city centre or Northbridge within an easy walk of Perth Station. Escape This Perth CBD is about five minutes from the station and Escape This Northbridge about ten, so the whole break works on foot. Named places to stay will come with Escape Perth’s downtime guide.

Can we bring the kids on an escape room break?

Yes, on an adventure break. Escape This Perth CBD has 6 worlds with a 9+ guide (Bank Heist, High Noon, Captain Nemo, The Wizard’s Chamber, Pirates and Pirate Island), and Taster pace leaves plenty of time between them. Horror breaks are 15+ or strictly 18+, and the horror half of a mixed break is in the evening, so leave those to the grown-ups.

Does an escape room break work for a birthday, hens or bucks trip?

Yes. Every Escape This booking is private, so your group never plays with strangers. For an adults-only group, a horror or mixed break can finish the night at Lake Street with its strictly 18+ worlds (Cannibal, Buried Alive and Asylum). A group too big for one world splits across two at the same start time.

Choosing your worlds

Can we visit both Perth venues on the same day?

Yes. Escape This Perth CBD and Escape This Northbridge are a short walk apart, either side of the railway at Perth Station; Escape This’s pages put it at five to ten minutes. Book the two sessions separately and leave about a quarter of an hour between them.

Which Perth venue is better for primary-school kids?

Hay Street Mall. Escape This Perth CBD has 6 worlds with a 9+ guide (Bank Heist, High Noon, Captain Nemo, The Wizard’s Chamber, Pirates and Pirate Island). At Escape This Northbridge, Pirate Island is the only world a child under 13 can play.

Getting there and getting around

Where do drivers park for Escape This Perth CBD?

In paid city car parks. Escape This names Wilson’s Central Park, about 350 metres away, and CPP His Majesty’s, about 400 metres, as the nearest to Escape This Perth CBD; there is no venue parking in the mall itself.

What is the easiest way to reach Lake Street without a car?

The free Blue CAT bus: Escape This says its Aberdeen Street stop, number 12934, is about two minutes from Escape This Northbridge. Perth Station and Perth Underground are about ten minutes’ walk, by Escape This’s reckoning (one page says six).

Where do drivers park for Escape This Northbridge?

On the street nearby, or in the City of Perth car park on Aberdeen Street (entrances at 121 Aberdeen Street and 104 Francis Street), which Escape This says is less than 100 metres from Escape This Northbridge.

Which Perth escape rooms can take a wheelchair?

Under Hay Street Mall, the world sites list Lost Tomb, Entombed, Bank Heist, High Noon, The Dunny, Captain Nemo, The Wizard’s Chamber and Pirate Island at one per session; Pirates and Hotel: Murder Mystery can’t. At Escape This Northbridge, Cannibal’s listing is the only one that says yes. Call ahead.

Is Escape This Perth CBD underground?

Its address is The Basement, 712–720 Hay Street Mall, and Escape This describes descending into the venue from the pedestrian mall. Look for the Escape This entrance on the mall itself rather than a shopfront at street level.

Booking and groups

How do I book an Escape Perth break, or just one world?

Escape Perth is about the breaks: themed one- to three-day itineraries across both Perth venues. Package prices and booking are being finalised; until then, book each world of an itinerary on escapethis.com.au, where every Escape This world in Perth lists its live sessions and prices.

Can one booking cover worlds at both Perth venues?

No. Each world session is its own booking, and Escape This Perth CBD and Escape This Northbridge keep separate calendars. Both answer the same phone number, (08) 6118 0286, which helps when you are planning a night across the two.

Do Perth escape room bookings mix groups?

No. Every Escape This booking in Perth belongs to one group, at either venue. A bigger group takes two worlds at the same start time rather than sharing with strangers.

The worlds, one by one

Which Perth worlds have a crawl that players can avoid?

Two, at Escape This Perth CBD: Entombed’s crawl space can be skipped, and in High Noon players who can’t crawl start in a cell that avoids it, according to the worlds’ own sites. At Lake Street, The Haunting, Buried Alive and Asylum involve crawling or lying down.

Can under-13s play The Dunny in Perth?

Not by Escape This’s booking system, which lists The Dunny at Escape This Perth CBD as strictly 13+. The Manly copy has a 9+ guide, so families with younger children should look at Pirates, Pirate Island or The Wizard’s Chamber in Perth instead.
